FNO Positions – Long Buildup Short Buildup
To check Long Buildup, Short Buildup, Short Covering, and Long Unwinding stocks, you can use Advance Futures and Options Dashboard on the Intradayscreener website.
You can check positions that traders are creating on Intraday using the Futures dashboard of Intradayscreener. This can assist with intraday stock selection as well as determining which stocks to buy and sell. This can also aid in the selection of short-term trades based on how positions were built in the previous few days.
We can see the positions that traders are taking in futures and options equities using open interest data. Long buildup, short buildup, long unwinding, and short covering are the most common classifications.
- Long Buildup - It means people are taking positions assuming the price will go up. This is marked by an increase in open interest and an increase in the price of futures. Usually, we also take care of the long buildup of the last few days before taking trades. If in the last 2-3 sessions, traders have bought futures and increased open interest, most likely that uptrend will continue.
- Short Build Up - It means people are taking short positions, assuming the price will go down. This is usually characterized by an increase in open interest and a fall in price. Basically, it means that traders are increasing their positions by selling futures as well because they expect the prices to go further down.
- Long unwinding - This shows Long positions are now getting exhausted and people are starting to book profits, assuming the rally is about to over. Long unwinding is marked by a decrease in Open interest of futures and a decrease in price as well.
- Short covering - Short covering happens after the stock has fallen a lot and now traders who have built short positions want to book profits. When short covering happens, traders will decrease Short positions. The short-covering may also happen when some good news comes in stocks after prolonged falling and short-sellers need to exit, as they are expecting a reversal.
